Healthy Families Lower Hutt and the Lower Hutt community have announced the planned opening of the Walter Nash Centre this month.
It will be the new regional facility for sport, leisure and learning, as well as a hub for the local community. Located in Taita, the Walter Nash Centre aims to make positive change toward healthier lifestyles – by bringing the community together and making the healthy choice the easy choice.
The Walter Nash Centre will include indoor multi-purpose courts, community meeting spaces, a new library and community fitness centre, a café and additional outdoor courts. It will provide opportunities for community programmes, cultural events, integrated services and a range of activities for the community to participate in to support health and wellbeing.
The centre will also connect to surrounding parks and reserves that will create physical activity opportunities including new outdoor exercise equipment.
The caterers/café owners in the centre will not have a deep fryer in their kitchen, and will make sure their menu has healthy snacks available at all times.
The initiative and change aligns with the way Healthy Families Lower Hutt has set out to positively influence the Lower Hutt community, by creating healthier environments where we live, learn, work and play.
The new Walter Nash Centre was blessed on Tuesday 25 August 2015 and will be officially opened to the public on Friday 16 October 2015.
PR from beginning of the year: “The decision to make the healthy choice the easy choice is part of Hutt City Council’s commitment to the Government’s Healthy Families NZ initiative, and something Mayor Ray Wallace is right behind.”
